Under general supervision, an Emergency Dispatcher coordinates and dispatches police, fire, and emergency medical services. They use advanced communication systems and computer-aided dispatch technology to evaluate and prioritize emergency calls, ensuring a timely and effective response.

Minimum requirements

  • Possession of a high school diploma or a certificate of high school equivalence (GED).

  • At least 21 years of age at the time of application.

  • One (1) year of experience responding to 911 emergency calls.

    OR

    Two (2) years of experience involving customer service, public contact, typing or data entry, field/crew dispatching, or general clerical work.

  • A citizen of the United States of America.

  • Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license at time of appointment.

Under general supervision, this role involves receiving and managing incoming emergency requests for police, fire, and medical services through an enhanced 911 system. The call taker utilizes advanced telecommunication tools and protocols to accurately assess, prioritize, and document emergency situations, providing critical pre-arrival instructions to ensure an effective response.
