Under general supervision, Police Officer is responsible for serving and protecting the community by performing crime prevention, criminal investigations, and law enforcement activities; performs related duties as required.

Minimum requirements

  • Possession of a high school diploma or a certificate of high school equivalence (GED).

  • At least twenty (20) years of age when applying, and at least twenty-one (21) years of age at the time of being sworn in.

  • Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license at time of hire (appointment).

  • A citizen of the United States of America.

Dive Team

Specially trained and equipped police unit that specializes in recovering items lost or concealed in water.  Their specific team goal is to safely and efficiently perform all recovery tasks in a timely manner.

K-9 Unit

Provides specially trained canine teams charged with the responsibility to successfully fulfill the needs of the Division of Police by assisting patrol officers, narcotic officers, SWAT officers, and detectives in crime suppression through criminal apprehension and evidence recovery.

Swat

Provides a team of officers with advanced training and equipment to support other sections within the Division of Police and other law enforcement agencies by responding to and resolving barricade situations, serving high-risk search warrants and arrest warrants, engaging in proactive responses to violent crime patterns, and more.

forensics

Enhances the capabilities of Columbus Division of Police personnel in the investigation and prosecution of crimes that involve digital evidence by collecting and analyzing digital evidence.
